There is something powerful about turning forty.

For many women, it’s a milestone that arrives quietly but carries a lot of reflection with it. Life has moved quickly. Years have been filled with building careers, raising children, caring for partners, and showing up for everyone else who needs them.

Somewhere along the way, many women begin to realize something surprising.

They can list all the roles they hold…

but they struggle to remember the woman underneath them.

The woman I photographed recently came to the studio because she is turning 40 this month.

She told me something that I hear from so many women who walk through my doors.

She wanted to remember who she was.

Not the titles.

Not the responsibilities.

Just her.

Mother. Partner. Professional. Caregiver. Organizer of everyone’s lives.

These roles are beautiful and meaningful, but they can slowly become the only way a woman sees herself. Over time, the vibrant, confident woman she once felt like can start to feel distant.

Her session became something more than just photographs.

It was a moment to pause.

To step away from the expectations and responsibilities that fill her days.

To reconnect with the woman she was before the world asked so much of her — and to see the powerful woman she has become through it all.

At first, like many women, she was nervous. There were laughs, a few deep breaths, and those familiar words many clients say when they arrive:

"I have no idea what I'm doing."

But something beautiful always happens in the studio.

Little by little, the nerves soften.

Confidence begins to show up.

Shoulders relax. Smiles become real. And suddenly, a woman begins to see herself differently.

Not just as someone who takes care of everyone else…

but as someone who is still vibrant, strong, and incredibly beautiful in her own right.

Turning 40 isn’t about losing something.

If anything, it’s about remembering what was always there.

And sometimes, all it takes is one experience to remind a woman that she is still very much herself — beyond every title she carries.
